Neurological Assessment

Dawn Senathi-Raja

MRI of the brain taken in August 2004 indicated a lesion of the same cortical region described in Section 1.7.1 (p.17). The circumscribed cortical lesion was anterior to Heschl's gyrus, encroaching on the right secondary auditory association cortex, but sparing the primary auditory cortex (see Figure 2.1).

Structural T1 (left column) and T2 (right column) weighted MRI sections of MR's brain in the axial plane
(progressing from ventral to dorsal) as at 16/08/04. Shows infarction involving the posterior aspect of the right insula cortex,
the lateral and superior aspects of the right temporal lobe, and the posterior and superior right frontal lobe.
The superior temporal gyrus infarction is anterior to Heschl's gyrus, encroaching on the right secondary auditory
association cortex but sparing the primary auditory cortex. Right and left are reversed.
